Floripa's most famous boteco, tucked inside the historic Mercado Público and open since 1984, nicknamed 'the country's most democratic counter.' Oysters and shrimp-stuffed pastries are the reason it's still packed after 40-plus years, though the fame means real crowds now, not a quiet meal.
Go for the oysters and the history. Everyone else has the same idea, so expect a wait.

The oldest restaurant in Lagoa da Conceição, serving fish and seafood buffet-style right on the lake since 1961. The lunch buffet is the value move, and à la carte seafood plates are portioned to share; dinner runs noticeably more tourist-priced than midday.

The island's signature oyster restaurant, opened in 1997 by Jaime Barcelos as the first in Brazil with its own oyster-purification system, and still the name locals mention first for oysters. It's a 30-to-45-minute drive south of Centro or Lagoa, so treat it as a destination outing and book ahead in season.

A beachfront grill in Jurerê Internacional built around fresh seafood and prime cuts, the neighborhood's splurge-dinner pick with beachfront atmosphere included. Expect real summer-season crowds and pricing; it's a less essential stop off-season.

A genuinely local coffee shop in Centro, not a chain, pouring award-winning Café Orfeu beans alongside omelets, crepiocas, and sandwiches. Modest, real, and unpretentious in a part of town short on independent cafés.
